Classroom behaviour transformation group.

Close your classroom door. Open your laptop. Bring me the behaviour you’re struggling with.

A 6-week behavioural psychology group program for Alberta K–3 teachers who want to spend less time reacting to challenging behaviour – and more time actually teaching.

Live online | Mondays, 3:30–4:45 PM MT | Maximum 10 teachers

You’ve attended the workshops…

You know relationships matter. You know behaviour is communication. You’ve tried choices, visual schedules, rewards, consequences, movement breaks, calm voices, ignoring, redirecting – and probably more strategies than you can count.

  • There’s still the student who refuses every transition.
  • The child whose behaviour escalates the moment you place a demand.
  • The student who seems to need your attention constantly.
  • The behaviour that derails the entire class while 20-something other children wait.
  • Or the same power struggle you somehow find yourself having again and again – even though you know it isn’t working.

This isn’t another classroom-management workshop.

Bring me your classroom.

  • Bring the student you can’t quite figure out.
  • Bring the transition that falls apart every day.
  • Bring the behaviour that keeps escalating.
  • Bring the strategy that worked for three days and then stopped.
  • Bring the moment when you’ve tried everything you can think of and genuinely don’t know what to do next.

We’ll use the behavioural science – but we’ll apply it to what’s actually happening in your classroom.

Each week, you’ll learn a focused set of evidence-based behavioural principles and practical tools. Then we’ll apply them to real situations, develop a plan, test it in your classroom, and come back together to figure out what happened.

What We’ll Be Working on Together

We’ll work through questions like:

  • What’s actually driving this behaviour?
  • What happens immediately before it – and what happens afterward?
  • Could something we’re doing unintentionally be making the behaviour more likely to happen again?
  • Why do some interactions turn into the same power struggle over and over?
  • What behaviour do I want the student to do instead?
  • How do I teach and strengthen that behaviour?
  • How can I give directions that make cooperation more likely?
  • When should I ignore, redirect, reinforce, set a boundary or follow through?
  • What do I do when something works for one student but not another?
  • How do I know whether my plan is actually working?
  • And when it isn’t working, what do I change?

The goal isn’t to give you a script for every behaviour you’ll ever encounter.

It’s to teach you a way of thinking about behaviour that allows you to make better decisions long after our six weeks together are over.

Your Six Week Overview

Week 1: Define the Change

We start with your classroom.

What’s working? What isn’t? Which behaviours are consuming the most time and energy? Where do you feel stuck?

We’ll identify the changes that would make the biggest difference in your classroom and establish clear, observable goals so we know exactly what we’re working toward.

Week 2: Understand the Behaviour

Before we try to change behaviour, we need to understand it.

You’ll learn how to identify antecedents, consequences, patterns and behavioural functions—and begin looking beyond what a student is doing to understand why that behaviour keeps happening.

You’ll choose a real behaviour from your classroom to observe and track.

Week 3: Break the Cycle

Sometimes the way adults naturally respond to difficult behaviour unintentionally helps keep the pattern going.

We’ll examine how coercive cycles develop between students and adults and use the Classroom Coercive Cycle Disruption Blueprint to map a real interaction from your classroom.

Then we’ll identify where you can interrupt the cycle.

Week 4: Teach What You Want to See

Stopping unwanted behaviour is only half the job.

What should the student do instead?

We’ll focus on intentionally teaching and strengthening the behaviours you want to see through reinforcement, differential attention, positive opposites, modelling, practice, routines, pre-correction, and environmental changes.

Week 5: Lead With Clarity + Follow Through

We’ll focus on what to do when cooperation doesn’t happen.

You’ll learn how to give clearer directions, establish expectations and boundaries, reduce repeated instructions and negotiations, and respond to noncompliance with greater consistency – without getting pulled into unnecessary power struggles.

Week 6: Build Your Classroom Behaviour Transformation Plan

Now we put everything together.

You’ll build a practical behaviour plan for your classroom that identifies:

What you’re targeting → why it’s happening → what you’ll change beforehand → what you’ll teach instead → what you’ll reinforce → how you’ll respond when the behaviour occurs → what you’ll track → when you’ll reassess.

And we’ll return to the goals you established in Week 1 to look at what’s changed, what still needs work, and what comes next.

Small on purpose

The founding cohort is limited to 10 teachers. That’s intentional.

I want enough time to hear what’s actually happening in your classrooms, work through real examples, answer questions, troubleshoot implementation and help you translate behavioural principles into something you can actually use.

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of other K–3 teachers dealing with many of the same challenges.

Close your classroom door. Open your laptop.

No driving across town after an already-long school day.

Classroom Behaviour Transformation is offered completely online.

Investment

$110 per session × 6 sessions ($660 total)

This fee is based on the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta’s 2026 recommended fee of $110 per person for group therapy.

Services are provided by a Registered Psychologist and may be eligible for reimbursement through extended health benefits. Coverage varies by plan; participants are responsible for confirming their individual coverage.

A credit card is required on file and participants register for the complete six-week group.

Because this is a small, closed group and your space is reserved for the duration of the program, registration is a commitment to all six sessions. Fees apply to all scheduled sessions whether or not you are able to attend.

Psychological-service receipts will be provided for each attended session. Coverage varies by plan; participants are responsible for confirming eligibility for reimbursement through their psychological benefits, professional development funds, health spending account or other applicable funding.

Who is this for?

This group may be a good fit if you’re a K–3 teacher who finds yourself thinking:

  • “I’m spending more time managing behaviour than teaching.”
  • “I’ve tried everything I can think of with this student.”
  • “I know I’m getting pulled into power struggles, but I don’t know what else to do.”
  • “The strategies we’re using aren’t changing anything.”
  • “I understand behaviour in theory. It’s applying it in the moment that’s hard.”
  • “I need an actual plan – not another list of strategies, tips, and suggestions.”

You don’t need to have a classroom in complete chaos.

Sometimes one student, one behaviour or one recurring interaction is enough to make every school day significantly harder than it needs to be.

What this isn’t

This isn’t a pre-recorded course.

It isn’t a generic professional-development presentation.

It isn’t six weeks of talking about how difficult teaching is without changing anything.

And it isn’t about finding the perfect strategy that magically eliminates challenging behaviour.

Behaviour change is a process.

We’re going to understand the behaviour, identify the variables we can influence, make deliberate changes, observe what happens and adjust.

In other words:

We’re going to do the work.

Led by Carla Stern, Registered Psychologist

My work focuses extensively on children’s big feelings, challenging behaviour, anxiety and the adult-child interactions that can either strengthen or interrupt behavioural patterns.

My approach is grounded in behavioural psychology, learning theory, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and evidence-based behavioural interventions.

But this group isn’t about turning teachers into psychologists.

It’s about giving you a clearer framework for understanding behaviour and helping you translate that knowledge into what you actually do next.

Six weeks from now…

I don’t want you leaving with 47 new strategies.

I want you leaving able to look at a difficult classroom behaviour and ask:

  • What’s happening here?
  • What is maintaining this?
  • What does this student need to learn instead?
  • What am I going to change?
  • How am I going to respond consistently?
  • How will I know whether it’s working?

And most importantly:

I want you to know what to do next.
